About Tom

My name is Tom Cornilliac, I am a web application developer living in central Oregon. I focus mainly on client-side development using Adobe Flex, Adobe AIR and ActionScript. On the server-side I am a long time ColdFusion developer but more recently I have been spending less time using ColdFusion and more time with Java, Python and even a little Ruby. On this blog I mainly write on these subjects with maybe an occasional off-topic rant post.
I’ve always had a fascination with how things work. When I was a teenager I would randomly disassemble items around our house (my Dad loved this!) just to see what made them work. It was this innate curiosity that led me to develop a passion for programming which turned into a career in web application development.
I first discovered the Internet in 1995 after repeatedly hearing about this thing called AOL. Yes, I was one of those dorks that initially thought AOL “was the Internet”. On the whole AOL was really boring and I didn’t take long before I was surfing the web for hours every day (You should have seen my dial-up bill back then!).
Of course it wasn’t too much longer before surfing the internet wasn’t satisfying enough, I had to know what made this thing work. Once I discovered HTML and realized how easy it was to create simple web pages I was hooked.
It’s been almost twelve years since I created my first web page and I’m proud to say that my passion for web development has never faded and the learning has never stopped. Hopefully through this blog I can share some of what I’ve learned over the years along with some of what I’m currently learning as I continue to develop.
